After a tumultuous past couple of years, we’re finally ready to ring in the new year. Each year, when the new year comes around, we are faced with tons of (often unrealistic) expectations. Around 45% of Americans make new year’s resolutions each year. The most common new year’s resolutions are: to get more organized, to lose weight, to spend less and save more, to stay fit and healthy, and to quit smoking. While 45% of Americans make these resolutions, nearly 25% give up in just the first two weeks of January. We wanted to make your new year’s resolutions easier this year, and we’re offering ten realistic resolutions.
- Take time for yourself
This can look different for everyone. Maybe you have goals to lose or gain weight in the new year, change your appearance in other ways, save money, or be more spontaneous! Whatever your resolutions are for 2023, remember to take time for yourself. It’s crucial to focus on your own physical and mental wellbeing this year. Some tips to take care of yourself better in the new year include:
- Have self care days (who doesn’t love face masks?)
- Exercise frequently
- Eat healthy, but still treat yourself
- Make realistic financial goals and stick to them
Again, this will look different for each person. Whether you’re saving for a new car, house, something special you’ve had your eye on, or you’re saving just to save; it’s important to make goals! Once you have your desired goal set, you can decide how much money you should be taking out of each paycheck. You should also set a desired time for this goal, as it’s easier to make financial plans when you have a set “due” date! A popular financial planning tool is using SMART goals, which is a sound approach to managing and preparing our time. SMART stands for Specific (What do I want to achieve?), Measurable (How much time is needed to succeed?), Attainable (How can I do this?), Realistic (Am I willing and able to do this?), and Timely (What is my target date? What should I achieve along the way?).
- Get more sleep in the new year
We shouldn’t have to mention just how crucial sleep is for your wellbeing. It helps regulate your emotions, keep you feeling on top of your game, and promotes overall better brain performance. You should focus on maintaining a regular sleep schedule, getting anywhere from 7-9 hours of sleep each night! This isn’t always easy with everyone’s hectic schedules. But luckily, we have Relaxium Sleep to help. Dr. Eric Ciliberti, renowned sleep expert and neurologist, mastered sleeplessness with Relaxium Sleep. His life mission was to offer safe, affordable, and reliable supplements. He created Relaxium Sleep to help you fall asleep quicker, stay asleep longer, and wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
- Eat home cooked meals a few times a week
We know how busy life can get, but eating home cooked meals at least a few times a week can have a positive impact on your health. Ensure that you’re eating healthier foods in 2023! When you order take out repeatedly, you never truly know what’s going into your food. You’re also more likely to eat foods that are bad for your body and mind! This year, focus on trying to make dinners at home a few times a week. Who knows, you might even end up enjoying it!
- Keep your car and room clean
It may be unrealistic to make a resolution that you’re always going to keep your home tidy. But, you can start with two places that you’re in the most: your car and your bedroom! Set aside a few minutes a day to ensure that your safe spaces are clean and cozy. It will make you feel better each and every day!
- Try something new each month
New year’s resolutions don’t always have to be set in stone. Instead, try a new activity each month! This can be something that’s always been on your bucket list, or something totally random that you come up with. Regardless of what you choose, it will keep you creative and keep your mind open to new things. It can even be a time you get to exclusively spend time with your friends or family.
- Be more active
Losing weight or exercising is one of the most common new year’s resolutions. Instead of those, just aim to be more active on a daily basis. This can be something as simple as taking a walk around the block. You don’t have to be extreme with your workouts, just get your body moving! It will improve the quality of your life and you’ll start seeing results in no time, mentally and physically!
- Spend quality time with friends and family
This might seem obvious, but quality time with your friends and family is extremely important. Everyone has different lives, might live far away, and it’s normal for friendships to fade in time. But, you should try to maintain them as much as possible. Purdue listed helpful tips to maintain relationships with partners, families, and friends:
- Showing love for the other person
- Talking about a future together
- Being a cheerleader for the other person
- Prioritizing the relationship and spending time together
- Having fun together doing enjoyable activities
To restful and healthy days ahead,
